Chronic social stress lessens the metabolic effects induced by a high-fat diet

Stress has a major impact on the modulation of metabolism, as previously evidenced by hyperglycemia following chronic social defeat (CSD) stress in mice. Although CSD-triggered metabolic dysregulation might predispose to pre-diabetic conditions, insulin sensitivity remained intact, and obesity did not develop, when animals were fed with standard diet (SD). Here, we investigated whether nutritional challenge, high-fat (HFD), aggravates phenotype there are particularly sensitive time windows for negative consequences HFD exposure. Chronically stressed male mice controls (CTRL) kept under (i) SD-conditions, (ii) commencing post-CSD, or (iii) provided lasting throughout after CSD. Under SD increased glucose levels early post-CSD. Both regimens non-stressed but Nonetheless, was CSD, differ from long-term body weight gain, fat tissue mass plasma insulin, leptin levels. In contrast, continuously available, displayed reduced lowered leptin, white adipose weights compared their HFD-treated controls. Interestingly, stress-induced adrenal hyperplasia hypercortisolemia observed treated CSD exposed continuous treatment. The present work demonstrates that can reduce HFD-induced dysregulation. Hence, during may act beneficially, comfort food, decreasing demands.
